Oscar’s nominations 2018: Who gets in

The Oscar’s are once again approaching rapidly. Ballots were turned in this past January 12th and nominations will finally be out tomorrow morning. Stream it online at 8:20AM ET on the Oscar’s official YouTube channel.

This year is as competitive as any recent year with many movies, directors, actors and actresses competing neck to neck for the golden statue. Both of us at filmandtonic are rooting for many of them, and we are very much hoping for some diversity and inclusion in this year nominations. Greta Gerwig comes to mind with her beautiful work on Lady Bird, and Jordan Peele for his fantastic and racially complex film, Get Out. On the actor and actress’ side we have many possible diverse contestants including Daniel Kaluuya and the wonderful Mary J Blidge. More especially, perhaps, we hope for Rachel Morrison to be recognized for her powerful work as Mudbound’s DP. If she gets a nomination, as we think she will, she’d be the first woman cinematographer to be ever nominated for this award.
